Why BMI is Flawed for Athletes
As mentioned, BMI severely penalizes individuals who carry a lot of muscle mass. If you lift weights regularly, participate in crossfit, or have a naturally stocky build, your BMI will likely classify you as "Overweight" or even "Obese" despite you having visible abs and excellent cardiovascular health.
Conversely, BMI can also fail to identify "normal weight obesity" (often called being "skinny fat").
